Ignore the ‘Bitch Next Door’
A Message from WMF Founder, Janeen Halliwell
Kindness, Goodness, Community, and Giving Back – these are the values that I identified as being integral to We Move Forward when I first conceived of it. My intention was to create a special space where kind women would form community and support one another from the goodness of their hearts to live a life of passion and purpose. Giving back would happen through sponsoring local women to attend, donating a portion of each registration to a local charity, and by including speakers from organizations that too give back.
For the past three years, WMF’s core values have guided my work and the conference. But, I did get side-swiped after WMF 2013 and almost called it a day. As many of us know from experience, there will always be critics in our midst; this is a fact of life. It’s where we decide to focus that matters. In a protective way, some of my nearest and dearest were telling me that it wasn’t worth it to put in the long hours and to work through the grueling details that are necessary for pulling off WMF. Initially, I listened. Then I paused… for two months. And then I went back to believing in my vision and honoring my values. I’m so grateful that I did, as We Move Forward 2014 exceeded my greatest expectations, and those who attended – kind-hearted and good-minded women who came together and formed a supportive and fun community, one that exuded love and compassion.
This is what I learned from my WMF 2014 experience, and it isn’t a new lesson, it is a recurring one that many of you will recognize from my conference openers: Pay attention to the people in your cheering section – rejoice in their accolades and listen and learn from their constructive feedback. Be aware of self-doubt – you know that voice, the one I like to call ‘the bitch next door’, don’t listen to her, or to the voices of those who keep her company. Be strong, keep good company, and move forward with grace.
I am so very grateful to all of the women who continue to support my passion and purpose, We Move Forward. Please know that I too am in your cheering sections, and I look forward to seeing you in 2015!
Love & Light,
Janeen Halliwell
